The Medical/Surgical Services Department at Jasper County Hospital is a 35 bed patient care unit that delivers care to acutely ill and injured adult and pediatric patients with general medical and surgical disease problems.
The usual types of patients seen are Swing Bed (short term skilled care), pediatrics with upper respiratory infections, adult patients with upper respiratory infections, COPD, asthma, cancer, G.I. bleeding, cardiac telemetry, diabetes, auto accident injuries, post-op patients (e.g. TURP's, cysto-stameys, cholecystectomies, bowel resections, orthopedic surgeries, hysterectomies), and occasional patients with acute alcohol withdrawal and acute psychiatric problems, including attempted suicide.
Nursing services are provided 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year by the unit director, RNs, LPNs, NEs, NAs and HUCs. Patient care services include caring for patients who are in varying stages of their illness from admission to discharge. The unit receives some patients from ICCU and transfers some patients to large medical facilities and nursing homes.
Quality Assurance is a vital part of the operation of this unit and is integrated into all aspects of care delivery by the Director and staff. This unit participates in furthering nursing education by serving as a clinical setting for first and second year nursing students.
