Jasper County Hospital is changing the way patient satisfaction is measured for those departments who provide care for hospitalized patients. All eligible inpatients who were discharged after October 1st will receive a survey by mail. The HCAHPS survey, pronounced h-caps, allows the Hospital to determine the quality of care delivered for ten separate measures. Previously, the Hospital staff distributed a different survey by hand to selected patients.
According to the Hospital’s Quality Director, Jackie Molter, R.N., “the HCAHPS survey will allow us to understand the patient’s perspective of how their care was delivered. Our information will then be compared with like sized hospitals.” The change in surveying patients is part of an ongoing process by the Department of Health and Human Services to measure quality of care delivered by health care providers.
Results from the comparison will be publicly reported in 2013 and available at www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov.
If you have any questions about the HCAHPS survey process, or a survey you receive, please contact Jackie Molter, R.N. at the Hospital, (219) 866-5141, extension 2018.
