The department's medical capabilities have been greatly enhanced to better serve, and meet the needs of, the community. The expansion is a result of the Hospital's continued growth in response to community needs and requests.
The expanded facility has more than twice the amount of recovery spaces that the former area possessed. The floor plan of the new area allows for greater patient privacy. Additionally, each of the recovery spaces has its own computer. Items for patient comfort and convenience, such as warm blankets and an ice machine, are readily available.
According to Kari Goodman, RN, Director of the Outpatient Department, "All patient vital signs and heart tracings can now be viewed not only at bedside, but from a central station located at the nurse's station, making the delivery of care to patients by nursing staff more efficient." She continued, "The addition of the medication dispensing machine (Omnicell) in the department also contributes to more efficient patient care."
Currently, the surgery, recovery, PACU, endoscopy and minor procedure rooms are complete. The final phase of the construction/renovation project will be the completion of the 10 examination/consultation rooms in the area formerly occupied by the Surgery Department. Also included in the final phase is the construction of an Outpatient Lobby in the former Patient Accounts Department. This Lobby will allow families and friends of patients to be close to the outpatients after surgery or a procedure is performed.
